TREVOR WOODS - PAINTER

Trevor Woods was born in Maidstone, Kent, in 1974 and moved with his family to Norfolk in 1977. He has always had a keen interest in painting and design, but it was not until 2001 that he was able to realise his ambitions and began to paint in his spare time and sell his work locally. Over the next couple of years he developed a very distinctive style and the skill of breaking down what he saw in everyday life and turning this into bold, graphic paintings.

Finding it increasingly difficult to devote enough time to painting, he became a professional artist in 2004 and has not looked back since.

Working in acrylic and ink, his ever-evolving graphic style has won him much acclaim and has resulted in his paintings being commissioned and purchased for private collections in this country and abroad, as well as him being invited to exhibit in galleries across the UK.

Trevor’s approach has always been to break down a scene and highlight key areas that particularly interest him. This has developed throughout his career as he continues to challenge himself with new subject matter and ways to interpret what he sees.

Understanding which elements of a scene are important and his colour interpretation are what make his work stand out. His paintings often depict his local area of North Norfolk, but he also greatly enjoys the complete contrast of painting scenes - be it city or landscape – from places further afield. These discoveries keep Trevor’s work fresh and often surprising. As one important collector said, “Trevor is a painter of places and spaces”.

In April 2009 Trevor and his wife Jo opened Gallery Plus in Wells-next-the-sea on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast. It is now the home of Trevor's Art Studio along with a contemporary exhibition space and professional picture framing service. Trevor has an on- going exhibition at Gallery Plus and his studio is open to visitors all year round.
